Some of you may be aware, but many might not know that I have customers spread across five time zones within the United States (often, Hawaii and Alaska time zones are overlooked). I’ve has a customer in Fairbanks, Alaska, for approximately two years now, and this week marked my inaugural visit. After completing my work obligations, I decided to take an afternoon off and arranged a red-eye flight back home, affording me some time to explore the Fairbanks area (this time of year its light 19 hours a day) where I was staying.

Recently my company brought on a customer in Oregon and I needed to be onsite to see them off to a good start. Due to timing of flights etc. I stayed over the weekend and got to take in a little bit of the area. I tried to make it to Crater Lake but there was just too much snow. If you’re interested in seeing the pics follow on past the break.

It was 9 years and 2 months ago to the day that I received and unboxed my Drobo 2 Generation data storage device. At that time I was digitizing my entertainment collection and my need for space was expanding rapidly. Up until that time I was storing things on external hard drives and backing them up manually to protect against drive failure. As the space needed grew this became more difficult and cumbersome.

Driving the Audi R8 & Hoover Dam
Jess & I took a little vacation in February where I got to do something I’ve always want to do drive a super car on a race track.
I used a company called Exotics Racing and had a great experience.  My original plan was to drive an Aston Martin but it was not working on the day of my arrival.  They offered me several other cars to choose from but in the end I choose the Audi R8 (they gave me extra laps for free because the car I scheduled was not available).  I did choose the video package with my laps you can click the link here to watch the HD video you might notice I was smiling a lot.
While we were in the area I also got to see the Hoover Dam you can check it out here if you go I highly recommend taking the extra tour that takes you into the bowels of the dam, well worth it.
50 Months with the 2nd most expensive PC I ever purchased
It seems like I missed the 4 year anniversary a couple months ago for my 13″ MacBook Pro with Retina. Â I am now at 50 months with the same PC and this is a record. Â I have to admit when I purchased it I had more than a little trepidation with the cost. Â Behind the first 486 DX2 66 IBM Clone PC that I purchased in 1992 this is the 2nd most expensive PC in my 28 years of computing
I’m still very happy with it today and it continues to be my main PC. Â I have traveled countless thousands of miles with it and it is no worse for the wear. Â On some days it does show a very little bit of age but it still serves me very well.
So Jake what are you saying? Â Should I only by Mac’s going forward?
No I’m saying that at all, I just wanted to mark the passage of time.
But, if there was one thing I would hope you took from this its that if you want to use something for a while be prepared to pay for it. Â Don’t go out and buy a $400 laptop and then lose you mind when it fails, slows down, won’t take a new update etc.
In almost all cases in this world you get what you pay for.
Updated: Star Trek: Discovery Episode 1 & 2 spoiler free review
Since this is the first new Star Trek series in 12 years I feel a review is in order.
- Starfleet uniforms | Awful
- Special EFX | Awesome
- Story Potential | There, but undeterminedÂ
- Writing | Good
- Klingons only in subtitle | now come on!
- New Klingon Wardrobe? | Seriously, Samurai Dresses, really?
- Redesign of the Klingon Bat’leth? | That’s just heresy!
Update 10-29-17 |Â I gave it 4 1/2 Episodes
I’ve stopped watching, this is not Star Trek to me, its a modern TV show and that’s probably ok for most people. Â This is gritty and lacks the uplifting parts of Star Trek. Â As I said its a very modern TV show and I may just be getting very set in my ways.
This is just not my Star Trek.
Cord Cutting Year Three
